Kia Ora Whanau, PLEASE TAKE A MIN TO READ & LET ME KNOW IF I AM ON THE RIGHT TRACK, OR PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME . . . AM MORE THAN WILLING TO LEARN Have to Tautoko your post today Nicki . . . was having similar thoughts today . . . was thinking of the PRINCIPLES I was taught growing up & some of the MAORI VALUES taught to me also . . . with PRIDE & CONVICTION :) (Please keep in mind these are not only maori principles, but a couple were just taught to me this way) 1. Monkey See, Monkey Do . . . Our greatest teaching tool to our Tamariki (children) is by the example we set . . . or what they see us do is what they will think is right :) 2. As it was expressed to me . . . the reason that our Tiki is carved on one side (when many are mirrored on both sides) is to remind us Not to be to Two-Faced :) 3. And I remember when growing up on the marae, when two kaumatua had an issue with one another . . . I dont remember any back biting so to speak. They spoke about this Openly and Honestly to Each Other in the wharenui, taking their turn, being very honest - yet both with a desire to resolve their concerns . . . and return the wairua between back to a state of ko tahi tanga . . . leaving the wharenui (basically) happy again. Our least damaging way to resolve issues between one another is to come together face to face and seek out understanding . . . the only place to find True answers is to speak with the person involved. (More often than not things are merely a misunderstanding). Would find it hard to use the terms: Maori, Whanau or Arohanui as a part of any discription of me if I did not employ these principles . . . and would worry about the quality of the Tamariki are our Future Leaders if we do not teach them these principles through our examples. Rant Over lol :) Te Tangata, Te Tangata, Te Tangata
