Kiambu Governor William Kabogo risks being recalled over his leadership style, an MP has warned. Thika Member of the National Assembly Alice Ng’ang’a said residents may be forced to start the process of removing the county boss within two years if he does not change his “one-man-show leadership”. “Unless the governor listens to the people of Kiambu, the 1.4 million residents may be forced to kick him out by collecting one million signatures as required by the Constitution,” said the MP. The lawmaker said Mr Kabogo must involve Kiambu people in the running of the county through their elected leaders or face their wrath. She said the governor has sidelined the 12 elected MPs in the county. “He cannot even spare a minute for us. The only time I talk to him is when I am asking why he has demolished investors’ property in Thika,” she said. The lawmaker spoke following the rejection of the Finance Bill by members of the county assembly last week, which Ms Ng’ang’a said was a strong signal that the people must be consulted. She said the defeat of the Bill means that the county government cannot transact business for the next six months. At the same time, Limuru Central ward representative Joseph Murugami has threatened to call for the dissolution of the Kiambu county government, saying the leadership was wanting in many ways. He called on Mr Kabogo to step up his leadership role and guide the 12 constituencies in the region in the right direction. “The leadership of this county is wanting since the governor has never sat down with other leaders to discuss the vision and development of the county,” said Mr Murugami. “The Kiambu people and the country at large only hear of infighting within the county, which hurts our people and wastes a lot of development time.” by Oliver Musembi osembi@gmail and Anne Macharia [email protected]
