LANE UNDER THE COTTONWOODS photographed at Rancho de las Golondrinas, New Mexico October 17, 2014 Another highlight of my trip to Santa Fe was working two days one-on-one with fine art photographer Craig Varjabedian. He was a wonderful mentor, making me stop and reflect on my photography. We had interesting discussions on art and practice. He shoots large format film and does darkroom work and his own printing. He also shoots digital. I did much more tripod work than I normally do, and also used a cable release for the first time in my life. Found out very quickly that my tripod was not suitable for the weight of my 7D, so will be investing in a new one -- probably as a Christmas present to myself! When I post process, I usually approach it as experimentation and playing as opposed to editing with intent. Craigs guidance made me slow down and consider WHAT I want to convey in an image and then build my processing around that intent. I have a tiff B&W version that Craig and I worked on together of a similar shot of this lane and trees -- it is magnificent. The file is too large to post here, and I also plan to enlarge it for matting and framing. That version will eventually be for sale.
