Below is the text from the latest fire update press release. Update: snd.sc/14XTgow Meeting Part 1: snd.sc/12FjD33 Part 2: snd.sc/1dDNA4Z Part 3: snd.sc/14XTbRD Part 4: snd.sc/1dDNDxx Latest press release: Fire Update: Todays operations saw good progress at line construction along the southwest boundary of the fire above Pardee Creek. The plan is to continue line construction to the road and to advance the line upslope toward other existing roads. The primary concern is along the south side of the fire where there is potential for burning logs rolling downhill and advancing the fire toward Clark Fork River. Air operations delivered about 26 loads of fire retardant between Pardee and Flat Creeks to hold the fire. Crews will be working the south and western sides of the fire tonight and monitoring for any significant spread or burning logs rolling down slope. Minor burnout of unburned fuel will occur when there is opportunity tonight. Tomorrows operations will continue on the west side with line construction. A dozer line on the east side of the fire will be initiated above Flat Creek. The behavior of this fire is being driven by the terrain and weather. Much of the finer fuels are still green which is limiting spread of the fire; however, larger fuels are very dry. The weather on Wednesday will continue warm with moderate winds. It is very likely afternoon thunderstorms will develop because of the unstable atmosphere. These storms may bring erratic winds, rain and hail under the cells. They will be sporadic and may not occur directly over the fire, but could provide winds to move the fire and affect air operations. Closures: The Clark Fork River has been closed to recreational use through the town of Superior because of helicopter operations. Special Concerns: New fire starts! People are advised to not use the Vista Trail out of Superior because of the threat of the fire advancing in that direction. The public is asked to stay clear of the helicopter dip site for their safety. More Information: Visit Inciweb at inciweb.org, email westmullanfire@gmail or call fire information 406-459-8225. A media tour of the fire is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17, at 12:00 p.m. We will meet at the Superior Ranger District office. All participants must have their own wildland fire gear to go on the tour. This includes boots, fire pants and shirt, and hardhat.
