LHrs. Help me out. Im wearing my Lake Highlands hat here by the way. View the links below, and please share regardless of your opinion. It is finally time to make clear the intention and thinking behind our little branding project and this time OneFastBuffalo is directly involved with our partners in the launch. The thinking behind this project is important to understand. Just b/c you see a logo does not mean you understand why it is being created, and how it will be used. I know plenty of people do understand. But If you do not have the info you simply cannot make a clear assessment. If you do not know the intent, you could easily put this into the wrong context. Once it is out in the real world (hint…Octoberfest) you will start to see the real intent and undertand without explanation. So please take a few minutes to realize some key points by viewing below and then by all means you have every right to decide if you like the message, the style, the design, the colors, etc. Then it is just up to you to support and join, or not. You will even get to see all the original work we created. Not just what has been shown to the public. Last, Please share this because….I have realized something. The word REBRAND has been used to describe this project. I have even have used the word REBRAND myself, by habit I think, and that was a mistake. That is not accurate and really it is the source of much of confusion and even anger concerning this. The idea that we are REBRANDING Lake Highlands…..really by that, many people think we mean LHHS or they assume all there is to Lake Highlands as a community is LHHS. In reality, we are creating a NEW brand for the Community of Lake Highlands (the community includes LHHS, all the other schools, and of course so many things…businesses, churches, people, parks, orgs, events, etc). The community is a much bigger world than the school, its tradition and its sports successes. Thats coming from a former LH athlete ok! It is awesome that we think so much of our school, and its accomplishments. This of course strengthens our community brand. But the reality is that MANY things strengthen it in their own big and small ways. And we want to use all of those positive things to attract goodness to our area. So again, this is NOT a rebrand. It is a new brand for a not so well defined location in Dallas that has never been tagged with a visual brand aesthetic or message/tone. Of course we share the same name as the high school and that makes this a challenge. This brand absolutely honers LHHS without being LHHS. Im trying to make that more clear in our presentation and I am hoping people can help us make that crystal clear to the community. Not a REBRAND. Got it? :) The only way you can frame this as a rebrand is by saying well the location has a name…and so it has a brand. I get it, I study this stuff all day every day. But by default it simply borrows from the schools brand aesthetics (b/c it has no aesthetics of its own) and it has never had a written, thought out tone that makes it easy for our ambassadors to go out and sell our community to the outside world. So it is beneficial to give it both so that it has an identity apart from the school. Lets give it (the community) its due credit. So many wonderful things in this area we call LH. Please view, please share. lakehighlandstoday/index.php/news/article/why_we_need_a_brand/ and then ESPECIALLY view this…. https://docs.google/file/d/0B_19g4jPHItkSUR6VnI2NGNHajQ/edit That is an official doc containing the entire slide presentation (talking points and images) from last night presentation. In other words, it is a complete thought, not a a snapshot someone grabbed with an iPhone. Even better, in a few days a video of last nights talk will be available that will really allow people to here every detail. The talking points should give you a great deal of insight but of course we discussed this in much more detail last night. ps - I like to add another important fact….this project is not for the benefit of any one group. It is for that intangible, hard to define thing we call community. So it is for everyone here, those who built this community, and for those who come in the future. Otherwise I can promise you OneFastBuffalo would not have agreed to take part.
