LIES THEY TOLD OUR MOTHERS. ..In honor of the Mothers Day. When I had stayed up late writing this,I thought of the many nights I hear Mummys voice whispering words of prayer on her bed.I had become so used to it that sleep always fled my eyes when I dont hear hear her words of prayer. They told her that once she got married to my father, she would finally take a break and live like a queen.Little did she know that her calling in life had only begun. That night, she realized that life had furnished her with a baby even before she took in,her husband. She set about satisfying him in all ramifications. He was almost obsessed about her and could hardly get anything done without her. She was told that once a baby arrived, the attention will be split and she would ease up a little. She needed just a baby, everyone consoled her.But when the first baby arrived, her life became a marathon of duties. She now had two babies;her husband and her new baby. They all demanded her attention and she managed to take care of them both. She needed one or two more kids to help out,she was told.It took her 12 years and she was done with child bearing, five flawless kids who bore their fathers name. She had given 12 years of her life o us.Everyone congratulated her,she had just entered her rest. Alas, the main work had just begun and so one after the other, she weaned us all.It was a long period of time.15,18,20 best years of her life was ours. In those years, she stopped chasing her dreams and started chasing ours.Infact, she was so lost in it that her whole life and time got built round our ambitions and schedule. She ran her life with the calendar of our activities. She sowed every tear, pain and penny to see us succeed. Our successes became hers.My brothers degree became the degree she could have had and my sisters freedom became the liberty motherhood had denied her. Again, she was made to believe that everything could be the same again once were all out of the house. But she had worried about us for so long that she didnt know what else to do and so she worried and prayed for us everyday long after we had left the house. Her duty to us as mother didnt stop after we left,it became a habitual commitment. Today,Id like to take some time off to ask mothers these questions.. #Mum,did your back grow weary backing me? #Were all the morning sicknesses too much for you to bear? #Did you lose too much blood in the labor room for me? #Did you pay back all the debt you ran into trying to give me the best in life? I ask, even though I already know the answers just as she believed in all those lies she was told even though she knew the truth. To every woman out there, you are the salt of the earth and without you,wed just be children who have lost their way.I celebrate all the women,I celebrate my Mum.Love you loads..
