LYONS FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT PRESS RELEASE 9/24/2013 Lyons Fire Protection District would like to thank all of its volunteers, staff, contractors, responding agencies, and others for all you have given during the flood event. Lyons Fire Protection District was measurably affected by the flood. One of the district’s primary fire trucks is currently irretrievable and possible destroyed. Lyons Fire Station 2 received heavy damage and will be a total loss. Many of the volunteer firefighters have been evacuated and some have lost their homes. We are currently isolated from several of our primary mutual aid agencies due to road closures. Response for medical emergencies is available but delayed and limited due to some areas of the district still remain inaccessible by vehicle. Some fire suppression water supply is available; however, it is a minimal amount that is staged in various locations. Water tankers and portable ponds have been loaned to our district from neighboring fire districts and contractors. AT THIS TIME, THERE ARE NO WORKING FIRE HYDRANTS IN THE DISTRICT The X Bar 7 and Blue Mountain areas are only accessible by a temporary crossing over the Little Thompson River. We have staged one ambulance and one small truck with 2 volunteers who live in that area. The fire suppression water supply in these areas is also very limited. The Lyons Fire Protection District has extended its Declaration of Disaster for assistance on a state and federal level. We urge residents to be alert for safety issues as you work with your utility companies in restoring services. Please be vigilant and aware of your surroundings, property and the community as we work to rebuild this great town.
