Labor Day has its roots in Chicagos Pullman neighborhood. Pullman is the site of our nations first major labor strike that led to the establishment of the Labor Day holiday. It is also the birthplace of the first African-American labor union. Momentum is building for the creation of a Pullman National Park to commemorate the neighborhoods role in our nations labor movement.
