Ladies and Gentlemen, I cannot stress the point of the First - TopicsExpress

Ladies and Gentlemen, I cannot stress the point of the First Amendment enough. Our founders thought it so important they placed it first among all the Amendments. Im not into revisionist history so I will tell it to you straight. In the Old World of Europe most of the governments were, for the most part, Theocratic Kingdoms. The Catholic Church being the Theocratic part and the Kingdoms were many. England, Spain, Italy, and many more were Catholic Countries. There was much fighting in that time and taxes were heavy to keep up that fighting. The Church also taxed and took from the Kingdoms a tax. This weighed so heavy on the common mans family that in time it broke apart the Church. Martin Luther was one of the first. And over time even what Martin Luther started split into other Churches. Envy, Greed, and politics got into the mix and soon the people where looking for a way out that would allow them to practice their Faith in peace. That way came in the form of the New World in lands called the Americas. Our founders took from this very real problem and made up their minds that all Faiths, and Creeds would be allowed to practice their Faith in the newly formed Country of the United States of America. In the 13 original Colonies there were states Faiths. Even though the Catholic Church was part of the problem that forced the forming of the New World the Catholic Church was allowed in the United States. Maryland was one of the States and by its name you can clearly see this is a fact that cannot be denied. True to the word of our Constitution, its founders, and its First Amendment, the very Faith that forced so many over traitorous seas, the Catholic Church was allowed its First Amendment rights. This was not by accident or oversight. The founders, Christian men one and all, put their ill will in some cases behind them and stood on morals not ethics and foundered a Country on God given rights. They need not agree with another mans Faith and many did not agree, but they stood on virtue. And virtue is something that is sorely lacking in todays society. Our founders back in the 1700s knew full well about other Faiths that were not Christian. Neither you nor I can find within our Country Constitution words disallowing any non-Christian Faiths right to practice in our Country. Thomas Jefferson was First and even gave of his own treasure for the first Jewish Synagogue to be built in our lands. Such facts cannot be denied by anyone, this is true history. So, all Faiths both Christian and non-Christian are allowed here. It grieves me dearly to see people bash the Faith of Islam. Being a Christian man I cannot say I agree with the Faith of Islam and I find myself thinking much like our founders that while I strongly disagree with that Faith I much like our founders, stand on principal and indeed even virtue and put to one side ethics and embrace morals. The First Amendment stands and Islam is a Faith that I will stand for. If I do not make that stand and give into the pressure to taunt and belittle anothers mans Faith in effect disallowing them their peace to worship whos to say that in time someone will come along and do the same to me. As a matter of fact I myself have come under attack with my belief in the Catholic Faith. So, I know the feeling and am keenly aware that this can and will happen. My true Brothers and Sisters, I beg you to join me and stopping such bigotry from gaining a foothold within our Party, Country and your lives. I leave you all with this quote from Martin Niemoller and a prayer in my heart... First they came for the Socialist, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist. They came for the Trade Unionist, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist. They came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me. I will sign off in the same way Charles Carroll did, the Catholic signer of our Constitution. He did so in this way so the British would not mistake a family member for him and hang the wrong man if things went south and was lost. Robert Roman Mckerrow OF Teutopolis Illinois.
