Ladies and gentlemen, the worst thing to ever happen to a people - TopicsExpress

Ladies and gentlemen, the worst thing to ever happen to a people is when they have at the helm of the affairs of their life, welfare and safety, a bunch of rudderless, lackadaisical principals who make it look okay that an evil [an avoidable evil for that matter] is inevitable in the land, “by the way,” according to them, “mistakes are parts of life!” But our understanding so long slighted has at last ceased its pleading! Never in the history of this country do we have to deal with gross inefficiency, carelessness and madness in high places like we do today! Wisdom has left the seats of power and they that sit on them and cruelty has taken the center-stage! Friends, for occupying the highest position of trust in Nigeria, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan shoulders grave responsibilities! And the greatest guilt belong to those standing in the highest places, the depositories of sacred trusts that they’ve basely betrayed. Who would have thought that Prez GEJ to whom honour and power came while humble; him that went to school without shoes but now walks on carpets, will suddenly forget where he came from to become a tyrant! His life has suddenly been darkened by “2015!” His head has turned with the giddy scene of power intoxication and conscience now lies dormant! Pity the people whose leader indulges in ambition! For ambition like greed, closes the heart against the heart-cry of the people! Every new day, scores are brutally kill and scores still, maimed or displaced! From the day the very first victim of terror-attack was slaughtered like a common animal by terrorists to this day, our president’s response has been that of a beggarly weakling at the mercy of a bigger power! So disgusting is the head-count of precious lives lost under his watch! When a leader gets himself engrossed in an overmastering desire to overmatch or surpass his predecessors in opulence, he looks down on justice by looking-away in pretense that all is well and in extension neglect the duty of punishing iniquity and overlook the need of acquiring the perfection of character. In seeking to glorify himself, GEJ has sold his honour and integrity. . . so nauseating is the awards he has given to all manner of devourers, caterpillars and cankerworms during the Nigerian centenary celebration. How sad is the Nigeria story! Today, a double blight of impoverishment and insecurity is resting upon Nigeria in consequence of corruption and blood-letting. . . and so loud to high heavens is the deafening silence and lack-luster kid-glove handling of the twin-quandary of terror (severally bigger than the United States 9/11) and corruption by the President of Africa’s biggest military and democracy! How long shall we continue to put up with the government of President Jonathan? There is cause for alarm in the condition of Nigeria today under his watch! Imagine young men and women dying in a poorly organized job-recruitment exercise by the Nigerian Immigration Service. Mr Sam Omotseye of The Nation newspaper beautifully presents the tragedy this way: The story fizzes with fear and trembling. Young men and women rose in the morning with zest and hope. For years, all most of them wanted were jobs. Jobs gave them food on the table but, more importantly, the pride of life. But few days ago when the countless numbers of them attended the Nigeria Immigration Services job recruitment exercise, death replaced hope. It skulked and triumphed over at least 19 lives. Stampede swamped the venues across the country. Imagine the sight of the three pregnant women gasping for air in Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, or the three who lost their footing and choked as the crowds trampled over them in Sani Abacha Stadium in Minna. Imagine the families of the beloved ones in Port Harcourt who had to swap their earlier wishes of good luck with dirges and funeral faces as they headed for the state hospital. Five died in the garden city. In the nation’s capital Abuja, which was the headquarters of the recruiting agency, how could you explain the eight snuffed out giddily? Explanation will trump explanation in the coming days. The inspector general of police may utter sympathies to the families of the bereaved while doling out symbolic punishments to the police men who shot into the air at the Ogbemudia Stadium. Already the Federal Government is commiserating with the families. Indiscretion has deadened the moral perception of Mr President, his kitchen cabinet and heads of other government functionaries that they don’t even know the defects of their character, nor realize the enormity of the malevolence they’ve committed as a result of negligence. Finally, the work of deception in Nigeria has reached its height. All the agents of depravity have been unleashed! Bewildered and deceived we are moving on in gloomy procession towards eternal ruin – towards a night with no hope a coming new day. Nevertheless, the contrast between truth and error will be more clearly seen as they shall take the field in open warfare; for in this great country will come the last great conflict in the controversy between truth and error and the truth shall surely prevail. The truth shall once again force the heroes of error to genuflect at the feet of conscience and this beleaguered great nation shall rise from the ashes of her ruins to sit on top of the world! God save Nigeria!!!
