Lakewood Springboard: Long article but truly an honor to know these young people! EXCELLENCE AWARD = TRACK = GOLF = BASEBALL = SOFTBALL = TENNIS Congratulations to the following seniors who will be honored as Circle of Excellence members on Graduates Night: Kelsie Eberly in Art, Brianna Horstman and Courtnie Vandecar in Business Technology, Emily Smith in Choral Music, Jewel Arias and Nina Martinez in English, Josh Martzke in German, Gavin Brandt in Industrial Technology, Jacob OMara in Instrumental Music, Taylor Vant Land in Mathematics, Andrew Wisecup in Physical Education, Alex Everts in Publications, Haley Willette in Science, Kelsey Hooten and Trenton Mitchell in Social Studies, Megan Hanson for Student Council and Monica Davis in Spanish. The Boys and Girls Track teams competed in a dual meet against Lansing Catholic while also competing against Williamston and Portland. The boys lost to Lansing Catholic 75-61. The girls beat Lansing Catholic with a close 68-66. Lakewood overall winners were: Noah Caudy in 110m & 300m hurdles, Samantha Morrison in 100m and 300m Hurdles, Mycah Ridder in 100m & 200m dash, Brianna Bost in shot put, and the boys 1600m relay team of Senters, Rickerd, Heins, and Caudy. Both teams are 2-2 in the league. The boys’ varsity golf team won another dual match on Monday, by a score of 174-191 over Lansing Christian at College Fields golf course in Okemos. Low for Lakewood was Blake Yaeger and Wade Piercefield each with a 41. They were followed by Ryan Feasal with a 42 and Alec Willison and Joe Parks, each with a 50. The team will host this weeks league jamboree at Centennial Acres on Thursday. The varsity baseball team split their league double header on Monday night with Lansing Catholic. In game one the Vikings lost 8-5 in 8 innings. Connor Hansbarger led the offense with 3 hits and 3 RBI. Kaleb Makley chipped in with 2 hits. In game two Alex Caudy picked up his third victory of the season with a 6-3 win. Dylan Kemp, Hansbarger and Makley led the offense with 2 hits each. The Vikes record stands at 14-6 with their next game against Lansing Christian TODAY The varsity softball team improved to 18-6 overall and 7-1 in the league after sweeping LCC on Monday night 6-2 and 11-5. Kennedy Geiger got both wins, improving her record to 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the league. In game 1, Khila Hamilton, Lauren Hazel, and Konnor Geiger each had 2 hits and an RBI to lead the offense. In game 2, the Vikings bats came alive for 18 total team hits, including 2 doubles and 10 RBI. Khila Hamilton, Lauren Hazel, and Konnor Geiger each had 3 singles and a double. Geiger & Hazel had 2 RBI & Hamilton had 1 RBI. Olivia Barker had 2 singles, a double, and 4 RBI. The Vikings are at Perry on Thursday and are the #3 seed for pool play of the Lansing Softball Classic Saturday. Theyll play Haslett at 9 am and Fowler at 11 am at East Lansing Aquatics Complex. The JV softball team picked up their 20th win of the season on Monday night taking two games from the Lansing Catholic Cougars 17-1 and 15-0. Maranda Barton gave up 4 hits while striking out 8 in game 1 from the mound while Haley VanValkenburg threw a one hitter in game 2. Katelyn Richmond had a great night behind the plate picking off three runners. The Viking bats were hot again last night. Sierra Stoepker picked up her second HR of the season and the teams 6th while going 4-4 at the plate with 3 RBI. Anderson Tuitman had 3 hits with (2)3B and 2RBI, Richmond had 3 hits with (2)2B and Molly Kilbourn had 3 hits with (2)2B. Shawna Wernette had a great night at 2nd base while picking up 2 hits with a 2B. Taylor Eberhardt had 2 hits and led the team with 4RBI. VanValkenburg and Elle Hilley picked up 2 hits while Aaron Kietzman and AJ Rodriguez had 1 hit each. The ladies travel to Saranac TODAY and are home against Perry on Thursday. Tennis results from last night: Lakewood 8 and Corunna 0. Go Vikes! Lakewood placed 4th with a 197 at the 3rd CAAC Jamboree hosted by the Lansing Country Club. Lansing Catholic golfers took 1st place with a terrific low score of 161 on their home course. Portland carded a 182, 8 strokes more gave Corunna 3rd place with a 190. Brady McNees was low score for Lakewood with a 44, Jake Hanson 47, Hayden Klotz shot a 51, followed closely by Austin Sanderson with a 55. Lakewood JV golfers will travel to Ithaca for the Yellow Jacket 18 hole Invitational on Thursday. PS: I added words about the great kids. .. Evie
