Centers for scientific research and experimentation emerged across Muslim lands in the Muslim cities of Baghdad, Cairo, Damascus, Samarkand, Shiraz, Bukhara, Isfahan, Toledo, Córdoba, Granada and Istanbul. This was a time when Europe was in its “dark ages” (a period of 1,000 years from 400 to 1400 A.D) having little education and scientific development of any sort.
