It is often recommended that when Gods children face a trial that they should participate in spiritual activities that elevate the moods, and practices that give a sense of positive reinforcement, and Christians are encouraged to read only positive bible passages. In other words, we are encouraged to ONLY read bible scriptures contrary to the trials we are facing. I FULLY disagree. The application of a passage of scripture or a spiritual activity opposite to what you are facing can actually give you a false sense of hope and misdirect you as you seek Gods will. The fact is, when you are facing a trial that is ordained of God, you need scriptures and spiritual activities that deal directly with your situation, not opposite to your situation. For example. When you are facing a trial, do NOT just read scriptures about deliverance and joy and healing, etc. Lets suppose you are facing a financial problem. Do not just read those scriptures about supply, rather turn to James 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? In other words, you do not want the scriptures to be used as a means of psychological hype. The bible is not a psychology book. Many preachers today have left off the preaching of the word and have turned to pulpit psychology. The fact is, if this trial is ordained of God, you do not need for the suffering and pain to end before God has fully fulfilled the purpose of the trial in your life. So turn to those scriptures that are directly applicable to your situation and not just those scriptures that give you a false sense of hope, or that just give you a sense that God is going to deliver you just any moment. Ill be honest with you. And this may seem strange, and I have never heard any other minister speak or write these words. But some of you need deliverance from security with your money. And some of you need to be delivered from perfect health for a while. Some of you need to learn to TRUST God again. The fact is, it is time for some of you to suffer. Like it or not. I know this is not popular, and to that I say, THANK YOU. Now, back to my subject. ALL SCRIPTURE IS GIVEN BY THE BREATH OF GOD. And God inspired even the scriptures concerning trials, for a purpose when you are facing a trial. Do not reach ONLY for those scriptures that give you HOPE for deliverance. But reach for those scriptures about Gods faithfulness in suffering. Folks, its not always about deliverance. Sometimes the christian life is about endurance. Notice. James 5:10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. James 5:11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. And, 2 Timothy 2:3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions... When you are suffering, reach for the scriptures dealing with how to endure, and not just those scriptures that give you hope of deliverance. Reach for the scriptures that are directly applicable.
