Last Saturday, Diane and I looked out to the river park we noticed - TopicsExpress

Last Saturday, Diane and I looked out to the river park we noticed him walking back and forth on the parks pathway nervously looking around and over the next 3 hours we occasionally glanced out, he was still pacing. As it got dark we could barely make him out but he was still there, thats when I decided I would go out and see if I could help him. I walked down through the parking lot to the pathway and noticed the path was a sheet of ice, I cant walk on that I thought. I looked up and down the pathway and spotted him at the far west end. I started to trudge through the deep frozen snow toward him, my foot steps sounded like thunder in the cold quite night and as I approached him he stood still watching me advance. I walked up to him, looked him over, he started to walk I walked beside him for 15 minutes, there was no communication even though I tried to assure him everything is ok. He stopped and looked at me, I decided to call 911, I described what was happening they said they would have someone call me. we walked some more, my cell rang and a woman asked me about him, I explained my situation, she asked if I could touch him. I put my hand on his back and he flopped down on the icy path I told her what happened. she said they would come and asked exactly where I was. For the next hour I huddle him against me , I took my gloves off and placed my warm hand on his head. He laid still his head against the ice. Two women approached and as they came I noticed one had a blanket she was opening . She placed the blanket around him and they lifted him up gently and went off through the snow to their vehicle. Monday I called the rehabilitation center to find out how he was, they said he was up and eating but that he was suffering from not eating. I called again this morning they said they found he had passed away during the night. I told Diane and as tears swelled up in her eyes, we both knew it was the most beautiful Trumpeter Swan we have ever seen or that I had touched. I went to help but it was of no use. His spirit is now in a better place.
