Last Saturday marked the 40th anniversary of President Nixon’s - TopicsExpress

Last Saturday marked the 40th anniversary of President Nixon’s resignation in the wake of the Watergate scandal. So CNN polled Americans, to see if we still think that breaking into DNC headquarters and covering up evidence was serious enough to bring down a President. It appears that four decades of escalating political scandals have created a much more cynical America. A majority of those over 40 still believe that Watergate was a very serious matter. A majority of those under 40 say it was just politics as usual. Personally, I’d say that with its bugging of Americans, secret recordings of private conversations and mysteriously disappearing evidence, it sounds like a typical Tuesday in the Obama Administration. Given all that, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that the same CNN poll found just 13 percent of Americans believe the government can be trusted to do what’s right always or most of the time. Yes, that’s an all-time low for trust in government. Even trust in big business is higher, at a whopping 17 percent.
