Last evening at 7 pm in Guwahati , NorthEast United FC played Kerala Blasters . John Abraham and Sachin Tendulkar teams were there in a full stadium of 31,000 fans . It was a closely fought match and NorthEast United won 1-0. It made all of us at Anglian Football proud to see so many players from the North East show their mettle . It took us back 2 years to February 2012 . Below is the video which shares the beginning of our story in India. When we invested in Shillong Lajong Football Club (SLFC) in early 2012, we broke every rule in the investment community book. Football was considered by most, a half-dead sport in India though North East was mad about it as was Kolkata and Goa. Then in North East which every one considers a troubled zone. Then again in a local Meghalaya community-owned club which had built itself over 30 years as a pan North East club. Many people outside the North East even today cannot pronounce Meghalaya and will not know what are Khasis, Garos and Jaintias. We put funds, PR, digital media and much more than that into making Lajong as visible in the mainstream . There was IPL, there was Pro-Kabbadi, there was the Hockey and Badminton Leagues . But not a single team from the North East . Now with ISL- Indian Super League, North-East gets into the New Sporting Revolution driven by stars, media, pizzaz and big resources. Top quality live telecast. And Shillong Lajong is the hub around which this was made possible . We are not big enough to play on this table. But we supported and built capabilities in the local talent when it needed it the most. And see how its flowered. This has been Anglian Footballs vision. Creating opportunity and allowing creativity, persistence, passion and excellence a space. We are happy, North East is now an equal. Second to none.
