Last night was a vulnerable one for Off-Color. 11 hours of rehearsal, a packed house, and a passionate post-show discussion about the tenuous navigation of satire. Although art is best when its provoking difficult conversations, it can be hard, to witness people walk out of a performance, or to watch a joke land sourly. However, the pursuit of self-reflection and community engagement continues. The company woke early today, eager to get back at it, fine tuning sketches to be clear and accessible. After the company left, I got this message from an audience member: For me, the Out of Tooners has proven to be a valuable experience for several reasons. Heres just one. This week, I have watched my fifteen-year-old nod in agreement, laugh at the world and realize shes not alone in her thoughts. Huge. Thank you. These words of affirmation keep artists going. Thank you for the immense support, Kankakee. Your open and intelligent minds are helping make this show great! Open rehearsal tonight: 3-5 Free workshop: Navigating Satire 6-8. Library, 4th floor.
