Last night was our last night of foos in July 2014 at LHOF. By - TopicsExpress

Last night was our last night of foos in July 2014 at LHOF. By the time I arrived king-of-the-table matches had been going on for over an hour. Just before Jim Landon arrived, I prepared for a 6-team draw. Jim was bringing a new fooser and I expected Frog to show up by 7 p.m. It was only when I started having foosers draw for their spots that I got the news that Frog would not be coming. Tom Frog Heath has injured his back. It has to be pretty severe, they say he will miss foosing from 3 to 6 months. What a blow to Tom, LHOF, the Asheville Foosers, and BonziniNation. Tom rarely misses a foos event. He is always ready to lend a hand with setup or breakdown of foos events and is a walking rule book. He has won an event at each of the last 3 Bonzini-style events he has attended. At the NC Open in Wilmington he won the Under 1250 Singles event. At our own SC State warm-up event he won the 3500 Limited event while teamed with Larry and won the draw while teamed with Bruce Nardoci. He won the Expert Doubles event at the SC State in late May while teamed with Larry again. As he takes his medical leave, he is currently the highest ranked player statistically in our week-to-week competitions. Tom, you will be missed! Godspeed with your recovery. LHOF looks forward to your recovery and return to the game we love. We did manage to run a 5-team DYP last night, followed by a 4-team DYP. In the 1st DYP, Larry & Butch claimed the king seat by defeating Marty/Eric, but soon found themselves in a rematch after Marty/Eric defeated team Dave/Mac in the finals of the one-and-done bracket. Marty/Eric managed to dip Larry/Butch once, but they managed to come roaring back in the final game to win the first DYP. The finals matches were intense, heated, temper-testing contests, similar to quite a few of the matches we have had in the house this summer. With everyone bringing their A games to our very competitive group of foosers, heated matches are bound to happen. What I like best about these matches, is that we leave our disagreements on the table and let our foosmanship do the talking. See LHOF Rule 1.1.1 Shut up and play! Did anyone else notice the frequency of the ringing of the bell last night? Did it toll for you? Our 2nd DYP was 4-team event and those in attendance got to watch our foster child grow up a bit. Yes, he took his first steps tonight. After losing his 1st match while teamed with the scribe (which including a bell ringing game) the scribe put Jason Foster Child Foster in the drivers seat. The kid responded. He scored 2 pull-kick combos, a far man slide into the corner and 2 or 3 snake shots. His 5-bar defense was excellent and his passing was adequate. He sat down team Jim/Dave in a race-to-9 game. Next up was team Butch/Mac and Mac was putting up a wall against Jason, so the scribe moved to front. We manage to get back in the game and were only down 6-5 when Mac put up a wall against the scribe. Jason/Pete soon found themselves down 8-5 and on the edge of elimination when Jason put up his own wall against Butch. He padded 6 excellent blocks on match points against Butch with 3 hammer push shots that scored from the goalie position. On his 1st touch on the final ball, he ripped a snake pull shot that had 4-wheel drive and powered its way into the goal for the victory. Jason/Pete had earned a rematch against Larry/Marty. In the finals, after losing the 1st game 5-1, they started game 2 down 2-1. Team Larry/Marty called a gadget play between serves and after we denied their effort, we won that game 5-4 including providing a post-game Dikembe Mutombo finger wag. In game 3, Jason/Pete were leading 4-1 and full of confidence. Larry/Eric posted an excellent comeback and tied the game at 4 each. On match point, Marty denied Petes 4 shots on goal. The last attempt careened back into Jasons zone and he crushed a push shot! KICKBACK! Denied by the L-train! Game over! Back to reality! Larry and Marty won the 2nd DYP. Larry is player of the week with 2 wins in 2 DYPs. Marty gets an honorable mention. Jason is rookie of the week. Wait a minute. Jason is rookie of the week every week. Just kidding Jason! Great playing tonight - and a lot of fun. To honor your performance I have used a poor Photoshop to add you into our team photo. It will have to do until Tom heals and we are all back together a-gain for a team photo. I missed you Tom - get well soon - and oh yeah, FU Tom! Always FU!
