Last season, the Bears rush defense went South when MLB D.J. - TopicsExpress

Last season, the Bears rush defense went South when MLB D.J. Williams, generally durable throughout his ten-year career, injured himself for the season in Week Six against the Giants. Clearly there was a confluence of factors in the run defenses struggles, but Williams was critical in holding it together. I would like the Bears to retain him and fellow FA outside linebacker James Anderson on one-year deals, which would coincide with Lance Briggs expiring contract. This would give the Bears another season to develop 2013 draft selections linebackers Khaseem Greene and Jon Bostic and 2012 draft pick Shea McClelellin, who is being converted to linebacker from defensive end. Peppers will be released if they can sign their targeted free agent defensive end, now reportedly Lammar Houston of the Raiders. They should sign a FA safety, kick the tires on Charles Tillman or another FA CB and call it quits. FA is often fools gold. Draft well and sign quality undrafted free agents. FA should be the supplemental, not primary, method of building an NFL roster.
