Last week, House conservatives were able to push Speaker John - TopicsExpress

Last week, House conservatives were able to push Speaker John Boehner and his leadership team to pass a better immigration bill. Among other things, this bill provides financial help to border-states that deploy the National Guard to address this crisis. The legislation also attempts to restrict President Obama from unilaterally granting an amnesty to as many as five million illegal immigrants. And it made important changes in current law to speed up deportation. That is the good news. The bad news is that Harry Reid’s Senate had already left town. Even if they were in session, Reid would not have allowed a vote on the House bill. For all the criticism about a “do nothing” congress, a charge that is used to bash conservatives, the Republican House has passed dozens of conservative laws, all of which have died in Reid’s Senate. Remember this when you head to the polls in November!
