Last week, I shared a fundraising site for an amazing teenager named Brianna Rafferty for her trip to Australia...she was representing her HS and the state of NJ and was scheduled to leave tomorrow on this amazing adventure. Last night, coming home from 4th of July party, driving on Rt 45 in woodbury, Brianna and her car of friends were hit by a drunk driver. The car flipped and rolled 3 times, the drunk driver fled the scene. The driver was later caught but he left a car full of teenage girls who were coming home to get ready for this track and field trip to Australia in the road alone. The girls all survived though not without injury and Briannas mom, Debbie Thomas has asked for one thing, prayers for healing. Brianna will not be going to Australia now as her injuries do not allow, but please pray for physical and emotional healing for the girls and for strength and peace for the families. No mother should have to get the call that a drunk driver has done this, please do not have one drink and get behind the wheel. Call for a ride. Walk, whatever you have to do to NOT drive. Its never ok. Its never safe. Dont ever drink and drive. Brianna should be on a plane and not in a hospital. Not even one drink is ok. ALSO, Debbie asked me to stress that ALL five girls were saved because they ALL WORE THEIR SEAT BELTS!!! This is WHY they are alive today, because they all got in the car and chose to buckle up. Something we all NEED to stress to our teens as they venture out alone - not all teens buckle up- show them this. Make sure they know that they need to every single time. Brianna was not far from home, she was about 5 minutes away when the accident occured. Buckle up EVEN fr a quick wawa run. Please! And I know Brianna had someone watching over her, this is a miracle that they were not hurt so much worse! Please Pray for the family and that this guy gets put away for a long, long time.
