Last week, Police Week was celebrated nationally. Its been a little over 50 years since my father and his partner lost their lives while on duty right here in paradise. Their deaths changed the lives of their loved ones forever. I have spoken with several officers who were in the department when this happened, and I know that they remember. I have spoken with several residents who remember when it happened. I know that police officers park in the back of cars they call to the side of the road for whatever reason, so they are not in the line of fire like my dad and his partner were that night. What else do I know? What else have I learned? Life goes on? It does, but do the lives of our fallen peace/police officers mean nothing. One day a year, they are remembered, nationally. Every day, they are remembered by their families. 45 officers have lost their lives since 1903 in Hawaii. That may not seem like a lot, but believe me, the loss of ONE was major to my family. Its time to get the memorial wall built as planned; to honor those who battled our local war and lost their lives doing so. These are Honolulus finest. https://youtube/watch?v=IX6MKEMhWOg
