Www.lorenaoberg.co.uk. Lorena is passionate about patient safety and has taken time out of her demanding schedule to tell us all - 8 Things You Should Know Before Having Semi Permanent Make-Up from a SPMU C Permanent makeup can be your best friend or worst nightmare. As a busy Mother, Wife and Professional, I don’t know what I would do if I had to take the time to put makeup on every morning. But be warned that there is a lot of bad work out there! I should know, I make a living correcting it! On average half of my day is spent on the phone to people or correcting those who have had bad semi permanent makeup done. By the time people find me they are besides themselves thinking they have been permanently disfigured. Before having SPMU done, make sure you research the technician and know what to expect. Here are 8 tips to help you choose the right tech. Correction is both expensive and painful. These tips will give you an idea of what to look for. 1. There is no such thing as Cheap SPMU - SPMU is expensive for a reason. Training and good equipment can run into the tens of thousands. Needles come individually packed and are expensive. Pigments and numbing agents are also expensive and a good tech will own at least 20 different colours, which in pigments alone is over £1000 investment. This is why you will not be able to find anyone doing good SPMU for less than £250 and prices can be as high as £800 2. Correcting bad SPMU will cost you four times more than having it done properly in the first place. With only a handful of people in the world able to remove pigments from the face, this is a highly specialised field. Do your homework, we are not cheap! 3. China makes very good lasers...they do not make good SPMU machines (some will argue with this but I would not be caught dead tattooing with a Chinese machine). A good way to know if the tech you’re looking to use is trained properly is to ask to see their machine. Turn it over, if it says “Made in Germany” proceed….otherwise make your excuses and find a tech with a German machine (German machines cost in the region of £3500) 4. Ask to see a portfolio of pictures of their work. Busy techs ALWAYS have plenty of pictures on their phones because most of us use our phone cameras as these make it easy to upload pictures to cloud based filing systems. Keep in mind that a lot of the pictures on websites are stolen from experienced techs and are put on websites as an “example” of what they think they can achieve. Your face is not a practice pad, ask to see recent pictures on their phone or camera (it will still be on the memory stick). Good work is NOT easy to replicate. Make sure you can see close ups. 5. The brow shape that is drawn on you is the shape you will probably end up with. If you are not happy with them and they are not equal, don’t allow the tech to proceed. I don’t know a single tech that can correct with the client laying down. A good tech will take their time to reach a shape that you love. There is no room for error. 6. This procedure can be uncomfortable but make sure to not move or you will end up with hair strokes on your forehead. 7. Daily deal websites are not the place to buy SPMU. This is an artform and your job is to research a tech that does what suits you. We are all different. I’m into a very natural look, other are more into a glamour look. Know what suits you and find an artist whose style suits you. 8. Trust your gut. If you at any point feel that the tech is not for you, just walk out. That’s your gut screaming not to do it. The above tips are not meant to scare you, they are meant to keep you from needing my services! Please be warned that there are a lot of people advertising that have no real training or skill. Don’t forget that cheap machines can be bought on Ebay for very little money and people see SPMU as an easy way to make a fast buck. If ever there has been an industry that personifies the term “you get what you pay for” it’s this one.
