Lawyers protest against Shopian killings => Demanding stern action against the CRPF personnel for killing four innocent people in Shopian, the High Court Bar Association members led by the its president Mian Abdul Qayoom took out the rally from the Court to Lal Chowk on Monday. The Lawyers marched on the roads of Lal Chowk and after passing through M.A Road and Regal Chowk halted for sometime near Press Enclave Srinagar. The lawyers carrying banners and placards raised pro-freedom slogans. Scores of Lawyers while resenting the CRPF action in Shopian sought stern punishment for the killers. Prominent lawyers participating in the rally included, Advocate Ajaz Beedar, G.N. Shaheen, Adv Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, Adv Mohammad Shafi Reshi and Adv Mohammad Abdullah. Later addressing lawyers in the Court premises, Mian Qayoom accused the government that it is hiding the facts and trying to label the slain youth as militants. “We demand that these CRPF personnel must be book and murder cases should be registered against them,” he said. He said that the statement made by Dr Farooq Abdullah regarding the non-conducting of an inquiry in the Shopian incident also points out to the giving of free hand to the Indian Armed Forces to kill the innocent people of J&K and to suppress the freedom struggle, launched by the people of Kashmir for achieving the goal of right of self-determination. He said that under the cover of AFSPA, troops are enjoying immunity and this draconian law has been forced on Kashmiri people to give a free license to troopers to kill innocents.(CNS)
