Left us on this day (Oct. 4) in 2009: Bill Cupid Bartolin (cancer, age 58), best remembered as the lead guitarist & co-songwriter for influential Youngstown, Ohio proto-Power Pop band, Blue Ash; much like the better-documented Big Star, the group garnered critical acclaim in the 70s, but poor sales, becoming another classic cult band that went on inspire others in the pantheon of guitar-driven pop music; Blue Ash reunited for concerts several times between 2003-08, including a performance at International Pop Overthrow in their hometown in the year before Bills passing; the group recorded many excellent tracks across their two official albums - No More, No Less (1973) & Front Page News (1977), the archival release Around Again (2004), plus hundreds of archival tracks yet to be issued (many of which will appear on a mammoth box set for released in 2015 on Zero Hour Records), but the song Abracadabra (Have You Seen Her?) is widely regarded as their masterpiece…(this & more featured today at Roch Parisiens Rocon Communications music chat page...)
