Leo Austria being considered next San Miguel mentor in yet another coaching revamp LOOK who’s looming as the top candidate for the head coaching job of San Miguel? It’s no other than Leo Austria. Sources told Spin.ph that management is considering making another coaching revamp for the Beermen in time for the PBA’s 40th season, with Austria reportedly on top of the list just a couple of conference ago after he was unceremoniously relieved of his duties as part of the team’s coaching staff. The move to tap another coach came following the disappointing campaign of San Miguel in the just concluded season of Asia’s first play-for-pay league when the Beermen failed to make the finals of any three conferences under coach Biboy Ravanes and active consultant Todd Purves. Spin.ph learned from other sources that Purves is set to be dropped as ‘de-facto head coach’ but will remain as an active consultant. Ravanes meanwhile, will reportedly assume his old post as one of the deputy coaches. “Very strong candidate,” said the source when asked by Spin.ph about Austria being considered to return to San Miguel. “May mga naniniwala pa kay coach Leo.” Austria previously coached PBA teams Welcoat and Formula Shell. The former PBA Rookie of the Year also led San Miguel to the Asean Basketball League (ABL) title in 2013 when the Beermen beat the Indonesia Warriors -- handled by Purves -- in the Finals. The Beermen later declined to participate for the 2014 season of the regional league. Austria also coached Adamson in the UAAP, but is currently employed with Ateneo as a member of the school’s athletic department -timrr9 Follow Us: @spinph on Twitter | spin.philippines on Facebook
