Let me tell you guys a story. Last week, I put up a post, advertising my Golf 7 GTI rims. Yesterday I put the ad up on OLX. And about half an hour later, got a call from an interested buyer. He negotiated the price from the R15 000 that I wanted, talked me down to R13 500. And he said he is fetching them yesterday. He asked for my banking details, so I asked him what bank he is using...he said he banks with ABSA and Nedbank. So, I gave him my Nedbank details. Five minutes later, I got an SMS notification that R13 500 had been deposited into my Nedbank account.... But heres the thing. It was sent from an ABSA account. So, effectively, the funds will only clear in 48hrs. Meanwhile, dude says his driver is already on his way to come collect the wheels. So, I called him back and told him that he will have to wait until the funds are actually in my bank account before he comes and collects. He tells me that he has already instructed his driver to come through, take the wheels to the mechanic and fit the wheels. So I told him, he may as well take that instruction back, because there will be no exchange of wheels happening. Next step, he asks for my email address, sends me thereof of payment on email and a copy of his ID. From that point on, I started ignoring his calls. 1. I asked him why he used ABSA when I am with Nedbank and he gave me some weird story about daily limit. Now...Im no fool. Internet banking has NO daily limit! 2. He said that his wife drove into a pothole and damaged 1 wheel. Why replace all four? 3. He could have made the funds clear immediately, even when banking with ABSA. 4. I googled his name and surname. Not one hit. Not a SINGLE hit. 5. He went out of his way to tell me he is a God fearing man and that he is quite principled. Why? 6. He got aggressive when I started asking many questions. 7. Most importantly, I checked out his ID number on Home Affairs website. ID number doesnt exist. So, these thugs scam us like this....They make a transfer and then before the funds clear, reverse the transaction. Meanwhile the God fearing man has disappeared with your goods. Be careful out there. Watch out for scam artists. They are very smooth. He calls and becomes your new best friend. Cracks jokes, tells stories, tells you he trusts you and will send the money right away. Yeah, right!
