Letter: HH Is a Compulsive Liar In a bid to impress the electorates, the overzealous and immature HH has continued to run his campaigns on lies without shame. As the presidential election gets closer, his desperation is also growing at a supersonic speed. A desperate mind is unstable and should not be trusted to lead a nation. HH has shown an insatiable appetite for power and can easily auction the country to the highest bidder. We the Zambian people have the duty to protect our sovereignty, dignity and maintaining peace by saying no to such maneuvers and voting for the right candidate. It’s quite disheartening to hear HH hoodwink the people at a rally in Shang ‘ombo that he will reduce the cost of fertilizer and mealie meal in two weeks if elected president on 20th January 2015. If HH is truly sincere and a farmer as he claims which I don’t doubt, he has to realize that reducing the cost of mealie meal will mean subsidizing but who is going to pay for such a social welfare scheme. Let it be known that he already said that he will also reduce the cost of fuel, which is another subsidy in the waiting. There are costs associated with the factors of production of mealie meal. Currently farmers are only making a slight profit above the cover cost of production. In this regard, reducing the cost of mealie meal in two weeks after the election that is if he doesn’t flip flop again, would mean that the cost of production will be higher than the selling price. To any sane person and well meaning Zambian, such an empty promise is absolute hogwash and does not make any economic sense. The only credible candidate in this election with experience in governance is the PF president Edgar Lungu. Edgar’s campaigns have separated boys from men as they have always been issue based.
