It is indicative of the low expectations of the available personality, intellectual and masculinity profiles for government Cabinet ministers that Lawrence Martin could define Jason Kenney either as the “party’s star” or “most effective” minister – let alone as someone’s sad idea of a favorite to succeed Stephen Harper. Jason Kenney like John Baird (and others who acted as agents for former Ontario Premier, Mike Harris) have histories of anger management issues that re-surface whenever they are challenged or caught out. With the exceptions of James Moore or the late Jim Flaherty, these men as a group share patriarchal delusions the media has no difficulty recognizing in a Pierre Karl Péladeau or a Doug Ford. In my view, they are all far short of being suited to be sitting as MPs or cabinet ministers let alone PM. At a basic level of representational fit, the current rabid Conservative brand (win or lose) will continue to remain unpopular with the majority of Canadians who hopefully will find future safety and trust with a very different gendered federal forum of elected trustees.
