Like to listen to some celestial music? Try this clip from the Hilliard Ensemble, with Norwegian saxophone virtuoso Jan Garbarek. It may well be a hit among many of you, I can promise that! The Hilliard Ensemble is a male choir of four soloists: one counter tenor, two tenors and a baritone. They have a sound thats instantly recognizable: clear as a light blue sky, anti-romantic but maybe through that totally touching me. They specialize in very old music from the mediaeval and renaissance period, then they skip a few centuries and sing new music that is mostly written specifically for them. Parce mihi domine is originally by Cristóbal de Morales, a very old song, and to that they have added improvised lines on soprano saxophone, meandering around the vocals, adding colour and movement in many different ways. After some 40 years on stage, Hilliard Ensemble will sing their last concerts this year. So I learned when I went to one of their concerts last week in Tivoli/Vredenburg. I was happy to listen to/see them one more time, possibly the last time. Enjoy! By the way, you may have noticed me starting this kind of blog-like posts. Im planning to keep that up, shedding some words on all kinds of music that I like :) youtube/watch?v=0_dmQ7-_b-c
