Thyroid--Your Third Ovary Ladies, are you aware that your thyroid is known as your third ovary? When its weak due to lack of iodine, your ovaries weaken. Your adrenals and fat cells continue production of estrogen (until you die), but you wont produce sufficient progesterone to balance it. Estrogen is a growth hormone. Left unbalanced by progesterone it will stimulate the production of immature cells that do NOT know how to contribute to your body, but want to multiply rapidly and out of control.
