Lina Balciunas Cockrell just tagged me in her top 10 books post, and she listed childrens books. Thats most of what I read these days, so Im going to copy her. My 10, in no particular order: 1. Harry Potter. Yes, the whole series. It will let you read out loud to your kid until she/hes 10. Youll appreciate it later. 2. The Snail and the Whale, by Julia Donaldson. Its a big world out there. Let your kids explore it. 3. The Circus Ship, by Chris Van Dusen. Great illustrations, greatly interactive. Good rhyming. 4. Guess How Much I Love You. Because youll always love them to the moon, and back. 5. The Bear Snores On. Just because its fun. See also, the Bears New Friend, Bears Loose Tooth, Bear Wants More, and Bears New Friend. 6. The Bugliest Bug. An animal-centric -- and better -- version of The Little Engine That Could. 7. If I Built a Car. Because just one Chris Van Dusen isnt enough. see also, If I Built A House. Also, anything with Mr. Magee. 8. The Gruffalo. Because one Julia Donaldson isnt enough. 9. Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes. Our first Pete the Cat, and the best. It will make you sing even if you suck at singing. 10. Winter is for Snow, by Robert Neubecker. See also, Wow! School, Wow! America, and Thats What LIttle Boys are made of. Slate is lucky enough to have Neubecker drawing for us, and you should all go buy his books. No kids book required for your lists! Im tagging: Jody Brandon, Amanda Morrison, Jill Stoffregen Eichhorn Stephanie Butler Larimore Gwen Szymczak Lisa Laycock and anyone else who likes to read. Your list of 10 books that stick with you, no matter how good or bad.
