Listen up Newbies! I get inquiries very frequently about lifting weights. The weight room can be an intimidating place if unfamiliar with the equipment and how to use it properly. Trainers can be expensive and not in everyones budget. But that doesnt mean you should steer clear of the dark side of the gym. Women in particular! The myth of getting bulky is exactly that- a myth. Women generally do not eat enough calories or use growth enhancing substances so you will not end up looking like the she-men you see in bodybuilding magazines. Weight lifting is excellent for building bone density, burning fat, getting stronger & less skinny fat just to name a few. So with that said, we were all Newbies at one time. Even though I have lifted since I was a teen, there were many things I did not know or understand about weights and how they worked. So I bought these books about 10 years ago when I was a tri-athlete (not a bodybuilder). They look kinda cheesy but have GREAT info in them. They show the exercise, the muscle trained, glossary of terms, actual weight workouts and so much more. You will have to order online as they are difficult to find in bookstores. I encourage you to start the school year off right and take the first step. Trust me, you will be glad you did! Dont be afraid to ask questions from more experienced gym goers, but also be cautious as not to get bad advice on form. Happy Labor Day!
