Lithuania Minor used to be the Lithuanias most distinct region. First Lithuanian books were printed in Lithuania Minor (1547) and knygnešiai (book carriers) of the 19th century smuggled Lithuanian literature from there to the Russian-occupied Lithuania where Lithuanian language was banned. Even the flag and anthem of Lithuania Minor predate those of Lithuania. Šilutė is likely the most intact town of Lithuania Minor and therefore northern East Prussia.
