Little did I know when I heard the sound of your boot steps outside my door nearly eight months ago that my reality would be indelibly, irrefutably and irrevocably changed, and for the better. You entered my home and my life and you reached in and you grabbed hold and you pulled me from the hopeless abyss in which I had been languishing (unawares) for the better part of three years. You brought the light back and the laughter back and the love back into my world with your youthful enthusiasm and your joyful exuberance, your endearingly crooked smile, your winking How bout it? and your unwavering belief in me and in all that I am. You taught this old dog a thing or two about beginning anew and taking a chance, rolling the dice and making a leap of faith because *why not*? What began as a loosey goosey casual plan for two like minds with mutual physical attraction to share an adventurous year and some change together before amicably parting ways forever turned into something else entirely.I have, in fact, discovered the love of my life in the late autumn of my life and for this ~ and for you ~ I could not be more grateful. You have shown me that absolutely anything is possible if I just believe it to be so (and indeed, if I get the hell out of its way). How unlikely is it that we even met, how implausible it seems that you and I ~ the young lad and the salty broad, born a generation apart ~ connect in the way that we do, but how wonderful is it that we did and that we do? Happy Birthday to the kindest, smartest, sweetest, most generous, most loving and most sincere man I have ever known. Also, the dorkiest man. Did I mention dorkiest? Cuz dude, you are a straight up dork, did you know??
