(Long) Birthday Weekend Story: #clumsy #messy #crazy #thisiswhoiam So my birthday started this morning at 1:30 am when my 21-month old son wasnt sleeping well because of a bad cold. Because my sweet husband so often (no wait, I mean EVERY morning) gets up with our son when he wakes up at 6/6:30, I decided I should take a turn and be the one to tend to him. I attempted to sleep in the recliner with him as having him elevated seemed at to help him sleep better. Well, after almost 3 hours of that and our son crying AH-YEE (daddy) over and over, Nick took over for me so I could try to sleep. (Let me also mention that so far, all 3 of our kids seem to have gotten the busy/cant sit still gene from me...so he thrashes around a wee bit--he is NOT much of a cuddler, even when he sleeps!) After a not-so-restful night, my husband brought our oldest daughter to church with him and I stayed home with the two littles and watched it live from home... I decided this afternoon to bake (because well, what better excuse is there to make dessert than for my birthday :)...not that I EVER need an excuse to make dessert... Right as I was going to start and our youngest daugher (4 months) was sitting in her reclined chair thing, I could hear her mess her diaper. So I unbuckled her only to find that she had already leaked through her clothes unto the chair. I tell you what, that chair is amazing and has held up through 3 kids and a TON of washes. Im so glad that that it comes apart easily and goes in the wash! Im pretty sure its been washed like 8 times in the last 2 weeks. For being such a tiny, sweet girl, she sure can make a mess! Ok, back to the baking...I opened up a new jar of Organic Peanut Butter (yes, I do realize that it isnt paleo--but I have found my body handles the organic pb much better than regular pb so I use it). It is one of the kinds that separates so you have to stir it to mix-in the oil. I had my littlest Little now in my front pack so she can start learning how fantastic it is to bake cookies (and well, because her chair lining is now in the washing machine...) Stirring PB shouldnt be that difficult but I managed to spill the oil all down the sides of the jar and onto the counter and my hands...ok, so Im a messy cook. Tell me something I dont know. But then I reached for the container of honey in the cupboard and pulled it down...not remembering that I hadnt put the cover on tight the last few times I had used it...thus tipping it over and dumping out a bunch of honey unto the counter...(no one to blame but myself). Uff da. And two clumsy/messy incidents in one weekend wouldnt be too bad for me, except two days ago I went to the grocery store and grabbed a package of chicken and got slimed (dont you hate it when that happens?). I then grabbed a package of ground beef and grabbed it wrong thus making a big whole in the saran wrap. I double-bagged that baby so it didnt leak out anything. Then, after getting all the items on my list I walked through the frozen aisle to get to the front of the store. On my way, I noticed crinkle-cut french fries (yes, also not paleo--but fries, especially crinkle-cut ones are a weakness of mine). I decided to just check again what the ingredients were to see if wed be able to eat them. I grabbed the HUGE bag on sale for $4.95 JUST TO LOOK AT THE INGREDIENTS MIND YOU and in one swift motion, somehow ripped off the perforated end and sent frozen crinkles flying all over the floor...how embarrassing. I found an employee who was very sweet and gracious and said she would take care of it, bought my groceries and headed home. I brought the groceries and the kiddos into the house. I set a few bags of groceries on the island and in doing so, knocked over a glass of water. Thankfully, it didnt break. About 10 minutes later, I knocked over the glass of water again (what was left of it) onto the floor and somehow it still didnt break which was a relief!! Needless to say, it was a slightly-clumsy, messy, crazy, interesting and now hilarious weekend for me. Is this a sign of aging?!?! Being almost 30 does seem crazy! I feel like Im in Bible School still at the age of 20!! But, even though I cant fight against the aging clock, I am SO thankful to the Lord Jesus Christ to be where I am right now and have a loving and caring husband and our 3 children that I adore that He has blessed us with. Thank you, God for the past 29 years and may what I do glorify You and point others to You. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. (favorite verses of mine since childhood) PS: I know that some of you are going to be mad and un-follow me after this post as has happened in the past when I have posted something about being a Christian. I know this is a food blog, but its also that--a BLOG. And this is who I am. God has redeemed me from my sin and I am forever grateful to Him.
