Long ago and far away I lived on a Utopian Ranch in the Land of Idaho. Mostly the days were filled with activity Beyond anyones imagination today but we did these things as a matter of routine and necessity rather than as a chore or obligation. It was just done. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays we baked bread. Tuesdays and Thursdays were dessert days when we baked. Mom tried her best to mix it up and offer something new. But...these were dyed in the wool farm boys who expected meat and spuds, biscuits and gravy at every meal. I remember one meal where she offered up a lovely salad...of sorts. Uncle John: Whats THIS? Mom: Jello salad! Uncle John: Whats in it? Mom: jello, cool whip and fruit cocktail! (she was so proud), Uncle John: Now why would anyone want to go mess with good clean food like Jello?! A: JELLO ISNT FOOD! B: Be a little APPRECIATIVE! I made up my mind then and there Id never ...EVER be a domestic Dora (Dora...from the Greek meaning gift)...yea So I went to the field and became the best tractor and truck driver the ranch would ever know...to HELL with domestic talents!!!! HA! Which is why...many years later in a Land Far Away...when I had children I heard them scamper to the phone in our home...in hushed tones making a call....Dad...can you send food? Moms trying to cook again Eh....pork roast is overrated! Spiros Gialopsos
