Long but worth the read, help with medicine My daughter is 5, somewhat verbal, but not to the point of understanding medicine. She had bronchitis and the start of pneumonia last week. She started coughing Tuesday, quit eating/drinking Thursday night, doctors/hospital every since. We spent five days in the hospital, 15 IV tries later they finally got one to thread in her food. She is strong, stout, and we had to protect that foot like gold. She started out with an IV in her back for a day and a half as her veins were either flat/rolled/or bruised from being tried already. (she looks like a heroin addict). Anyways, they threatened an NG tube, and I had to decline. If she didnt have sensory problems, I would have said Sure, do what is best. Since she does have such sensory issues, this was not an option. So finally an IV worked, she started meds to get better. Well, now she is barely drinking, eating a bunch, but refuses to take meds. I hide them in food and she only is eating stuff that I cant hide them in. She takes 1200MGS of seizure meds a day, medicine for her heart, medicine for asthma/allergies, and melatonin. She has not had any of these since 10/9/14 and I am writing this on 10/17/14. Bribery, token boards, earning toys, first/then/ social stories, modeling, nothing is working. I cant get her to take anything at all. She is a picky eater so that doesnt help much at all. Without taking her back and giving her another IV to give her ativan to help make sure she doesnt start having seizures, what do I do? It took 7 people to hold her in her chair to get temperature the first time. Im at a total loss and I feel like Im failing her.
