Long story here but its worth the read... Got to be a part of fighting crime tonight... Juli Shepperd Davidson and Nolan and I were hanging out this afternoon getting items for our picnic and day at the park tomorrow. We got some food at Costavida and decided to venture over to Big Lots. We browsed the store for a while looking at pretty much everything in the store. It was pretty fun actually. Theres an isle for everyone there. Tools for dad, decorations for mom, toys for the kids. You get it. So we checked out and we were making our way to our car to unload the cart full of great deals that we found! (Tiki oil, some $5 ear phones, and a pool toy for Nolan.) Big score! As we were walking to our car I had a weird feeling of something going on to my 4 oclock. So we all got loaded up and I told Juli about my feeling. She was like What the heck are you talking about! I told her something was going on. We pulled out of our parking space and I of course went the direction of what I was feeling. Its the protector in me I guess. Some people go the other way. I cant seem to do that. So we are pointing exactly in the direction of 4 oclock now and sure enough... We see a live attempted get away going on right in front of us. So imagine a Dodge Magnum, black all tinted windows. Rear door is open with a lady shoving all kinds of things into the car very quickly. An employee worker behind the car with a shopping cart trying to block the car from going backwards. The car proceeds to start to back up while the lady is on the passenger side trying to get in the car at this point because the driver is leaving. He all but runs over this employee and puts it in drive and goes forward fleeing the parking lot to get away. Well Mr. D cant let this happen. So I tell Juli, we are going to chase them down. Oh man. Nolan is like Yeah lets get the bad guys! So I begin to follow, but not too closely. Remember guys, I watch 24 every week. I am schooled on this stuff. We see them ahead about 10 15 car lengths and they turn left. We noticed they had some clothing covering up their license plate. I started to make the turn as well but as I approached the center turning lane I glanced to where they were and they had already made another right turn but stopped at that intersection after making their turn. I thought they may be on to me following them, so I went straight thinking Id turn on the next left. In the mean time I had called 911 and was on the phone with the dispatcher. We turned and started looking up and down streets to find the car. After we turned we saw another car (suv) doing the same thing that we were doing. They must watch 24 too! So we roll down the window and talk about the directions we are both going to go. They are on the phone with 911 dispatchers as well. We have a little team action going on. Watch out CIA. So we drive around a little while longer and have no luck. The dispatchers told us to go back to Big Lots and wait for officers to take our statements. So we do this. And shortly after the suv shows up too. They are also instructed to wait. So while we are waiting of course both the suv and us are talking back and forth about the action we just went though. The best part of all this is Nolan. Hes in the back..Dad, tell them Im gonna be a police officer and Im gonna die those bad guys. While driving he must of caught wind of some of the street names: castle, clubhouse. He said, Dad, the bad guys are hiding in the castle It was awesome. He really was in pretend land with us as we were in the real world going through this. The cops finally show up and ask us for descriptions of the people. Between the suv and us we had them perfect. The officer said they stopped a car matching what we told them. Then the officer radiod over our clothing description and the confirmed that they had the right people in custody. SWEET! We helped the catch some bad guys. 2nd best part. The manager of Big Lots came out to meets us and gave us all 20% off coupons to come back and theyre good all the way until the end of June!!!! Were going back for sure. Thought I would share our evening. Youve heard of watch your six! Well watch your four too! -mrd
