Lord Ganesha, son of the highest God Lord Shiva in India and the Lord of Wisdom and bookknowledge. Shakti or Paravati who was allways disturbed by her husband Shiva when taking her baths in the river Ganges rolled off skin from her body and made a little boy to guard while taking her holy baths. Shiva did not know and took his sword and chopped his head off when Ganesha hindranced his way to see his wife. Paravati got angry telling Shiva he just had chopped the head of their son (their other son is Kartikeya - a 6-faced demonfighter riding a golden peacock), ordering him to get him a new one and not come home untill he had found one. All he found was an elephanthead and since then Ganesha became an elephant, crushing and mashing hindrances of his obeyers with his heavy feet, having a little mouse to solve the small problems beeing very little, quick and rapid... Ganesha is also the Lord of the students and the Lord of the Children in Hindu myths that are said to be teaching. I don´t obey the Hindu Gods, but I love these stories for beeing very entertaining!!! The N.U. Yoga Ahsram in Gylling, Denmark had a sweet statue of Ganesha in the girls library when I lived there for periods in 1986-88 and I used to have a couple for decoration in my bookshelfs later. This Golden statue was beautifull!! :))
