Lots of food for thought in this short piece - thanks to those who shared it. I do wonder about his inclusion of fasting on the day of Ashura for Sunnis. I was always taught that we fasted as Prophet Moses RA fasted, to thank God for saving the children of Israel from Pharoah. I was not taught that it has anything to do with the catastrophe at Karbala #IsThatMyPrivilegeTalking There is no one group of people that gets to decide what Islam is, and nor should there be—Islam is an abstraction, and any attempt at defining it is often a failed attempt.[1] Islamic history, like all history, is an interpretive exercise.
