Lots of steam in the mountain snow for the Christmas season. The HSB or Harz narrow gauge railroad is one of several steam operating narrow gauge railroads comprising several hundred miles of track in the Saxony region. Many, including the Harz still run revenue freight and passenger trains as well as tourist trains, all with steam! The HSB has more that a dozen meter gauge steam locomotives, including two 0-4-4-0 mallets from around 1900. Most of their motive power comes from a stable of 2-10-2 tank locomotives.
