Love & Respect to You All (Hardworking South Sudanese Abroad) ….It’s not your fault! If you are a South Sudanese living abroad and you think you may never become rich, you’re probably right, but it’s not your fault! South Sudanese in the Diaspora are less likely to become wealthy and/remain wealthy to no fault of their own. - It’s not your fault that you have less or no money left over in your bank account every month after you had paid your bills and sent some money to us in South Sudan. - It’s not your fault that you couldnt find a better job because you had to maintain your current job in order to support yourself and others (like your family back home in South Sudan). - It’s not your fault that you didnt get the job that you applied for because the interviewer couldnt identify with you or the questions were culturally skewed. - It’s not your fault that you couldnt climb the “corporate ladder” because you were perceived by others as an outsider and therefore not trusted. - It’s not your fault that you couldnt finish school on time because you had to work full-time to support yourself and us. - All and all, it’s not your fault that you didnt easily succeed in a foreign land where you were the first generation South Sudanese. Your hard work may not have been acknowledged by others because they perhaps didnt know what you had to overcome, but we do acknowledge you here in South Sudan because to us, you are not just somebody, you are our hero or heroine! Your support of us over the years and the enormous sacrifices you have been making on our behalf in a foreign land didnt go unnoticed. While we owe you the meals we have eaten, clothes we have worn, and the medications we gotten well by, we regret that we werent there to cook for you and care for you when you were sick. We regret that we werent there for you to care for your children when you needed help. We regret that we werent there to comfort you when you were disappointed. We regret that we werent there to celebrate with you when you got that job, when you graduated, and when you got married. And, most importunately, we regret that we didnt maintain peace and harmony among ourselves here at home. --Love and respect from South Sudan!
