Love of Siam director Matthew Chookiat Sakveerakul returns to his masterful kilig-hugot ways in this Thai film, Home: Love, Happiness, Remembrance. The film, this time set in Chiang Mai, consists of three different stories on love. The first story (Until 29:41 only - the weirdo who uploaded this spliced it with a strange film) is a miniaturized version of Sakveerkuls 2007 queer masterpiece. Loner high school graduate Nay returns to his high school to take photos of his empty campus at night. He is later on joined playfully by an acquaintance and schoolmate, Beam, a star player of their basketball team who is set to move to another school that pirated his talents. As they walk around the quiet school grounds under the clear night sky, they talk about their experiences and inner insecurities as well as the uncertain future. As in the story of Mew and Tong, the exchange is tinged with saccharine innocence and frailty that does not cloy. The conclusion of the encounter too is reminiscent of the emotional ambiguity that Sakveerakul deployed in Love of Siam - one that hints at the metaphysical optimism in self-discovery carved by the tender, hands of the Other, reminding us all of the age-old truth that the director articulated in Love of Siam: there is that love that brings you to life.
