Loved James Garner - as the iconoclastic and principled charmer he always seemed to be in real life as well as in so many of his best roles. Always remember when he was in a mini-series in which he played a somewhat less than admirable politician. It was a perfect part for a Republican, but he insisted on making even this scoundrel a Democrat, explaining that his wife would never, ever forgive him for playing a Republican. Note about the obit, though: if a person dies at a fairly advanced age, and not apparently from lung cancer, is it really necessary to mention that the deceased smoked - at all, much less in the second paragraph? Think hed agree. RIP.
