Lovely birthday hike with my nervous nelly of a dog Gunther. Since we moved from the UK our outdoor walks are always half on lead, half off given its wildlife training all over again with soooo many new animals to sniff and track. ( his breeding is normally for hunting and with that nose, you can see why hes so in tune with what he smells! ) We followed a deer trail up to this ridge. The deer must have gone right at a fork on a path along a hill as Gunther was whining and kept trying to make me go right instead of left at the fork and he would continually sniff from the top of this rock in the direction we avoided as the deer were pretty close ( hoof prints and fresh poop along the way ) I dont often take many pictures alongside Gunther as my head when sitting is right next to his and by the time the delay timer is ready to take a picture Gunther just cant help himself and the last picture is usually the result of trying to take those kind of pictures (= Still. Every day is a day of training but when we start the mornings with a nice hike, practice in town and at the workshop he can quietly rest in his crate and not bark at everyone that walks by the workshop. UPS truck driving past however is still a scary growly beast ( I think its the engine that triggers his nervous reaction ). But were getting there slowly slowly.
