Lucky number 13. Thirteen years ago today, I sat with my Mother, - TopicsExpress

Lucky number 13. Thirteen years ago today, I sat with my Mother, Aunt, and only child (at the time) and watched my country come under attack. I was newly married and like most people my age, optimistic about an America that was better than the one my grandmother inherited and far superior to the one my great, great-grandmother helped to build. I began this day, 13 years ago, believing that the strides we had taken as a country unified us in a way that could not be broken. Not in my lifetime, not ever again. I was wrong! We watched in disbelief as the first plane hit the tower, we were still watching when they came in for round two, we cowered in fear as the third struck the Pentagon, we refused to believe it as a fourth became a crater in a Pennsylvania field, but more than that, we fell on our knees as the twin towers collapsed, and in all of their amazing glory...were reduced to rubble. We called on the name of our God, the very principle this country was built upon. We forgot what divided us, we raised our flags, we opened our minds AND our broken hearts, we held our kids close and tightly, we thankfully welcomed our husband/wives home, we prayed and we promised..we swore, to never forget. The love we made trying to escape the hurt we faced every morning when we woke to this strangely familiar..but different world, led to an American baby boom. We hadnt had one since the second world war. I was blessed with twins in July 2002. Two new lives, two perfectly pure hearts, and four eyes that would never behold the towers, see New York from their heights, or be welcomed to their city..New York city, by the silhouette that the towers created...never. It still takes me a beat to recognize the sky line, from a picture, without them. Their NY would be different from mine but that was ok as long as it would be! Well 13 years later, my heart still flutters as they read the names..they are doing that now and I am writing this because I have something to say. That something is that we lie, we are weak, we have become a Godless country and for that, we are lost! We have made the name of God dirty, secretive, offensive, and unwelcome in our schools, places of business and even our homes. We do not pray openly, we forget that one of the first words we learned through this tragedy was Jihad..HOLY WAR. What happened to in God we trust? What happened to our flags? What happened to our patriotism and love for our country? Acceptance, tolerance, and race relations are taking huge strides in reverse. Who cares what color the President is if our country is dying!!! In a minute we will have nothing left to give our children. Can you accept and live with the demise of America happening on your watch?? Can you look your kids in the eye and admit that you kicked God out of this country? I cannot! Sadly, we are at our best when God allows us horror. It seems that only in pain and horror do we truly stand for anything at all. When the sirens are wailing and the lights are flashing and our eyes are filled with tears..we remember Him then, and we call on His name. He answers...and we forget. We keep saying we will never forget, but for the most part...we already have. We is you if you are an American. Regardless of the color of your skin. We have fought for every liberty that makes us special, unique, a world apart. Freedom was not free, nor was it easy. If we had hidden our heads in the sand every time it got hard..we would not exist at all and I would not have the ability to write these words, as I am. We must remain united as a country, as a people...one nation under God, indivisible! We must be better than they found us on this terrible day 13 years ago! We have work to do...stand up America!! I pray that God continues to bless America and regardless of the consequences..as for me and my house..we shall serve the Lord!. September 11, 2001 was just an ordinary day...until it wasnt.
