Luke 22:17-20 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of a God comes. And he took the bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after the supper he the cup, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. The cross is the sacrificial death, central symbol of the christian church. It represents Gods power to reconcile lost sinners to himself. Restores relationship to him. The bible describes the finished work of Jesus. The cross not only settles accounts in heaven but a triumph victory over all powers of darkness. But all of this is smoke and mirrors according to Islam. Muslims deny that ever happened. The Quran is explicit in denying the incident of the crucifixion. Muslims say Jesus was not crucified. The facts remain that on one Friday afternoon, a crowd in Jerusalem witnessed Jesus of Nazareth was put to death on a Roman cross. Even christianity severest critics agree with this fact. Jesus suffered under Pontius Pilate and was crucified, dead, and buried. All four of the gospels point to this as the central event in Jesus life. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John is why the gospels have sometimes been called passion stories with extended introductions and the story of the cross permeates all of the New Testament. Paul preached nothing but Jesus Christ and his crucifixion. Yet muslims deny that this event ever happened. And this is one major historical, theological differences between Islam and Christianity. There can be no Christianity without the cross. There can be no Islam with the cross. What can Christians learn from the Muslims denial of the most important event in the history of the world? The denial of Jesus death on the cross stems from loyalty to a pre-conceived notion of divinity. They say God would not allow his chosen one to suffer defeat and humiliation and death. Muslims say if Jesus were a true prophet of God. Why would God allow him to suffer in such a shameful way? In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed if it be thy will let this cup be removed from me. Muslims cant imagine that God would of done anything else but deliver Jesus and answer his prayer by delivering him from death on a cross. They believe that not only did Jesus not die on a cross but that someone possibly judas took his spot while God took Jesus up to heaven. After studying at length the past few months on the core differences between Islam and Christianity. Three things came to my mind. One is we must all pray for the Muslims. Second is we must all love the Muslims. Third we must all lead Muslims to Jesus Christ. We must all be willing to respect Muslims while sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. John 14:6 Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Live and Love In Christ 24/7 365
