MAGHREB CONFIDENTIAL N°1111 - 22/05/2014 Print Nawras Air set for takeoff Maghreb Confidential understands that a new airline, Nawras Air, is being quietly set up in Tripoli. Based in the Gharghour district, the carrier will be headed by Mahmud Zargouni and Fadi Abusen. The latter is the former number two executive of Ghadames Air which he left at the end of March. Nawras Air plans to shortly acquire an Airbus A320 airliner and has already begun hiring flight attendants. Its actual take-off has been put back by the unrest currently prevailing in Tripoli. A rocket hit the fledgling company’s headquarters on Sunday. Nawras is starting out in a bustling sector, with state-owned airlines bent on fast growth. Libyan Airlines is seeking to buy new CS300 aircraft from Canada’s Bombardier while Afriqiyah Airways is in talks with Boeing on buying 10 of its new 737 Max airliners. Lastly, newcomer Libyan Wings ordered seven Airbus aircraft last November, in addition to the aircraft it already leases (MC 1102).
