MAHALAPYE NAMES STREETS Mahalapye will soon have street names. Speaking during Mahalapye Sub-council meeting recently, the council chairperson, Moatshe Senai said the project which would commence this month ends March 2015. Mr Senai said street naming allows a unique identity and that the names would be allocated logically and in a consistent manner without causing confusion or misleading the user. He pointed out that street naming has a positive impact ranging from improvements in crucial services such as response to emergencies, house mail delivery and the convenience of ease of finding property of an individual. He also called upon the community of Mahalapye to contribute by proposing desired street names. Mr Senai also called upon farmers to collect their ISPAAD payments. He said a total of over P100 000 worth of cheques were yet to be collected by the beneficiaries. Regarding preparation for the next ploughing season, Mr Senai said they were underway including registration of tractor owners. He said it was very important for farmers and contractors to register with the crop production department as it would curb the problem of late payment of farmers. He said the department intends using electronic funds transfer for timely payments. On other issues, Mr Senai stressed that due to new castle disease outbreak, farmers should not let their birds roam around. He called upon bird farmers to vaccinate their healthy birds with Newcastle disease vaccine (LaSota) so as to prevent the disease. He also said there was a ban on movement of chickens countrywide until the Ministry of Agriculture was satisfied that there were no new cases. (BOPA)
